Cseke Csilla/MTI Arpad Goncz, Hungary's first post-Communist President died a month ago on October 6th. Today he is laid to rest in a Budapest cemetery, as the nation comes to terms with the loss of one of its most respected and trusted leader. The family of Arpi bacsi, or Uncle Arpi, chose today on purpose, as it is a key anniversary date for Goncz's involvement in the 1956 Revolution, an even that would impact the rest of his life and which would determine his legacy. Arpad Goncz was a remarkable person, with a remarkable legacy. He helped transition Hungary from the Communist rule to the new millenium successfully, and the whole nation will be forever grateful for that. During his time in office, he oversaw several governments, a dead Prime Minister and Hungary's joining of NATO. He managed to guide the transition peacefully and most important with minimal corruption as the nation privatized and developed, and most importantly avoided a breakdown of the system...

Controversial. Dividing. These are the words that come to mind when analysing people's reaction to Margaret Thatcher. Many people adore her, many despise her, but what is unquestionable is that the Iron Lady changed Britain for forever, as she restored the British pride. As Maggie would turn 90 years old on tuesday, we look back at the legacy of the only female Prime Minister. Margaret Thatcher is a hero. She was also a great Prime Minister. Perhaps the best Prime Minister that Britain had in the 20th Century, certainly if you exclude Churchill. After all, there is a reason why Thatcherism exists. It was because of her economic achievements and the grand effects she had on society. And not because she was a dictator. Margaret Thatcher economically transferred this country. First however; she saved it. In the 1970's, Britain was in turmoil. The economy was bad, and strikes were crippling the cities. Britain lost its power, and the glory days of the Empire were over...

As Jimmy Carter announced on August 12 that he has cancer, all the cameras turned back to him. The general coverage of his announcement was full of the expected well-wishes, but was also full of negative comments on his Presidency. We found this terribly disturbing and wrong, so we will show why all the critics are wrong. It is true that his legacy is polarising the public, but people seem to forget that he did a lot for America. Surveys that try to rank Presidents often put Jimmy Carter towards the end, and brand his presidency ignorable and only as a 'seat-warmer' for Reagan. This however couldn't be more false. And this opinion is coming from a Republican's mouth.  But first of all, it must be stated that all Presidents deserve the respect of people, as they have huge responsibilities on their back. The past week has seen some grand happenings that shifted American society into a new direction. Earlier this week, the nation and the world was still shocked about the horrible news coming out of South Carolina. It seemed like it will be another bad week for Obama, under whom racial tensions in the US have became the most tense since the Civil War. It is hardly what America's first African American President hoped to achieve. In fact it is quite ironic. However, tides soon turned towards his favour. The nation mourned together, and focus shifted on gun laws. While it would be irrational to ban guns all together, much tougher laws and regulations are certainly needed to end tragedies like this. If things continue to go this way America will slowly defeat itself over the racial divide. Nobody wants that.
