California just made a huge positive step in Healthcare

Governor Jerry Brown made California the fourth state in the US on Monday to allow physician assisted dying. Yes, only the fourth, and it's disappointing that the numbers (or the lack of) overshadow the real achievement. Everyone has the right to live, and everyone should have the right to die. Of course life is sacred, but the opponents of this law must not seriously think that California's true intentions are to have a genocide. They simply just want to help those people who have no hope of a cure, and are suffering. That's it, there is no story here, Everyone is allowed to make their decisions about their life and body. If you can go and get an abortion from a professional, you should also be able to go to your doctor to die. They are there to help you and to lessen your pain. In any way possible. Of course we support that background checks must take place, and several doctors (including psychologists) should sign off before you are allowed to die. You sho...

The Democratic Outsiders

No, we are not talking about Hillary or Jeb here. They can by no means be called outsiders. They are the frontrunners and are expected to face off in November 2016. However, the road will be long and rugged, and a lot can happen.

Let's start with the Democrats, because the list is shorter. A lot shorter. Sanders, Biden, O'Malley, Chafee and Webb.

Bernie Sanders. Well. A year ago no one has even heard of the 73 year old Vermont senator in Mainstream politics. Now, he is drawing a crowd of 10,000 in the backyard of Wisconsin's Governor Walker. It is a remarkable feat, and he is growing steadily in the polls, closing that gap on Hillary. By now Sanders has become a major contender who will give Mrs. Clinton a fight for her money, and could cause big upsets. The Democratic Socialist is appealing to the most liberal democrats with his social messages and taxes on the rich, raising the minimum wage and decreasing inequality. Hillary watch out.

Chafee, Webb and even O'Malley have basically no chance. They are true outsiders, as they are failing to raise their national profile. They are expected to fall quite early against the big guns.

Biden. The Vice President still did not announce that he is running, but many think that he is. Biden however is a very smart man, and will not run if he sees no chance against Hillary. He also recently just lost his eldest son to cancer, and would be the oldest candidate. However, on nationwide polling, he is doing rather well, and is on the level of Sanders. It would be good for the field to have Biden enter, and generate more competition and excitement on the Democratic side.

Whoever wins, the Democrats are going to be very hopeful and optimistic about 2016, as early polling suggests that the party is likely to stay in the White House after Obama. However, a lot can happen till then.

Stay tuned for part 2, which will be detailing the Republican candidates.

Paris was attacked again

EPA On Friday, the 13th of November, everything was normal in Paris. People were happy that the weekend is here, and went out with friends and loved ones for some dinner and drinks, or for their favorite band's concert or cheered for their home nation as France took on Germany in an International friendly. The same night though, the evil also descended on the French capital and took away 130 souls. It was an absolute tragedy. People have been shocked to their cores. It is with great sadness that we write about this topic. It touched us very deeply too. That is partially why it took us so long to reflect on this issue, the other being the fact that there is still so many new developments surfacing continuously. The whole picture is not clear yet. It may never be. What is perhaps one of the most striking facts about this attack beyond the number of casualties, is the fact that this is the second tragedy in Paris this year alone. It has only been 10 months since gunm...

Immigration is shaking up the politics of Europe

Migrant crisis in the Mediterranean. Refugees streaming in from Syria and Iraq. Eastern European workers in the Western member states. These are the forms of Immigration that are currently transforming the political landscape of the EU. The National Front is rising in France, UKIP in the UK, Jobbik in Hungary, Lega Nord in Italy and the Freedom Party in Holland. Brussels is stuck, and there doesn't seem to be a right way out of this mess for them. Every week, thousands of Africans are rescued from the Mediterranean Sea, as their little, and unsafe boats capsize and face imminent death. The Europeans are trying to rescue them out of their goodwill and human compassion, but they just generate more problems for them. Italy can't handle tens of thousands of immigrants each month, and the EU has no facilities either. These migrants are living in horrible conditions, and there is no hope for them. Similarly, thousands of illegal immigrants are trying to enter the ...

Paul Ryan elected as the next Speaker of the House

Getty Images Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin has been elected as the 62nd Speaker of the House on Thursday. The Republican succeeds John Boehner who resigned last month after nearly 5 years. The Speaker is second in-line to the Presidency and sets his party's agenda in the house. Speaker Boehner resigned the day after the Pope's historic visit due to a rift in the party and the continued debate over the next possible Government shutdown. His resignation was seen as a victory to many in the year of political outsiders gaining momentum in Washington. Many blamed him for the lack of progress made in Congress over the past few years, despite the fact that he passed several key legislations during his tenure. Immediately after Boehner's resignation, California Representative Kevin McCarthy was seen as the natural successor to his boss, he however dropped out of the race soon afterwards due to disagreements and the fear of not getting the required support. Rya...
