Governor Jerry Brown made California the fourth state in the US on Monday to allow physician assisted dying. Yes, only the fourth, and it's disappointing that the numbers (or the lack of) overshadow the real achievement. Everyone has the right to live, and everyone should have the right to die. Of course life is sacred, but the opponents of this law must not seriously think that California's true intentions are to have a genocide. They simply just want to help those people who have no hope of a cure, and are suffering. That's it, there is no story here, Everyone is allowed to make their decisions about their life and body. If you can go and get an abortion from a professional, you should also be able to go to your doctor to die. They are there to help you and to lessen your pain. In any way possible. Of course we support that background checks must take place, and several doctors (including psychologists) should sign off before you are allowed to die. You sho...

Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin has been elected as the 62nd Speaker of the House on Thursday. The Republican succeeds John Boehner who resigned last month after nearly 5 years. The Speaker is second in-line to the Presidency and sets his party's agenda in the house.
Speaker Boehner resigned the day after the Pope's historic visit due to a rift in the party and the continued debate over the next possible Government shutdown. His resignation was seen as a victory to many in the year of political outsiders gaining momentum in Washington. Many blamed him for the lack of progress made in Congress over the past few years, despite the fact that he passed several key legislations during his tenure.
Immediately after Boehner's resignation, California Representative Kevin McCarthy was seen as the natural successor to his boss, he however dropped out of the race soon afterwards due to disagreements and the fear of not getting the required support. Ryan's name only then surfaced as a possible successor, but he continuously denied rumours and was very hesitant regarding the job.
Ryan felt like the House was broken and had serious problems in terms of how it was ran, and gave a set of requirements to his colleagues, upon which's completion he would announce his candidacy. Ryan wanted the endorsement of several House Caucuses and stated that he is a family man, and would not jeopardise that for this job.
And after a week of discussions and negotiations, Paul Ryan was elected as the Speaker of the House with 55% of the vote, compared to Democrat Nancy Pelosi's 43%. Ryan is the first Speaker of the House from the State of Wisconsin.
Ryan is considered to be one of the leading faces and rising star of the Republican Party. Well he has now arrived. He is very well respected on both sides of the isle, and received praise from even Harry Reid, Joe Biden and President Barack Obama.
Ryan was chosen as Mitt Romney's Vice Presidential candidate in 2012 and was very popular with the voters. He is seen as a charismatic leader and many believe he will be a future President, as he is still only 45 years old, and the youngest speaker in nearly 150 years. Mitt Romney was there on Thursday to support his old friend as he took his new job, prompting reminiscence from many people. As the Obama administration continues to fail in many aspects, polls show that the American people regret re-electing the President three years ago over the Romney-Ryan ticket.
Ryan will have a very tough job in Congress, but he has promised reform and a complete overhaul of procedures. It is unclear yet how much he will be able to achieve, but he is one of those politicians who people still believe. People trust him, and have faith in his leadership.
