Governor Jerry Brown made California the fourth state in the US on Monday to allow physician assisted dying. Yes, only the fourth, and it's disappointing that the numbers (or the lack of) overshadow the real achievement. Everyone has the right to live, and everyone should have the right to die. Of course life is sacred, but the opponents of this law must not seriously think that California's true intentions are to have a genocide. They simply just want to help those people who have no hope of a cure, and are suffering. That's it, there is no story here, Everyone is allowed to make their decisions about their life and body. If you can go and get an abortion from a professional, you should also be able to go to your doctor to die. They are there to help you and to lessen your pain. In any way possible. Of course we support that background checks must take place, and several doctors (including psychologists) should sign off before you are allowed to die. You sho...
Sure Bernie Sanders is there, but many Democrats worry that they will have to end up supporting Hillary to beat the Republicans. And many don't want to. They simply just don't trust her.
And this is where Joe Biden comes into the picture. There is clearly a significant support for Biden's bid, and many think that he has a real chance against his former cabinet member.
Joe-mentum is now or never, and Biden knows it too. He has been flirting with the idea for the past few years, and hasn't really given up on becoming President, although if elected, he would be the oldest ever.
Biden first ran in 1988 but dropped out in the early stages of the contest. He tried again 20 years laters, ran a decent campaign, but was overshadowed by the Obama-Hillary war, and ended up as the Vice President. Now it can be take two against Hillary, and many people hope it will be.
Vice-Presidents have a tendency to try and go for the last mile, as it can be seen on the hit HBO show Veep, a show which Biden parodied too. However, they got to count with the fact that many people will see them as a third term of their president's presidency, and not as a stand alone administration. Hillary too got to worry about this by the way, due to her heavy and often controversial involvement in Obama's White House.
Al Gore, Mondale and Humphrey are famous cases of Vice President's trying to win an election on their own, but the most recent and successful bid was from George H.W. Bush in 1988. The father of Republican Candidate Jeb Bush, was seen as a third term Reagan President, but has achieved great successes in his one term. Ironically though, he was defeated in re-election by Hillary's husband, Bill Clinton.
This is why many people want the family dynasties in American politics to stop, but let's get back to Biden.
Biden in the past few months has been laying low, making calls and observing the field. He has been taking notes on the scandals around Hillary and talking to potential donors. Biden has an advantage over Hillary as he is much more trusted and liked than the former First Lady. In recent polls, he has also performed slightly better against some potential Republican hopefuls, and without even announcing his run, that is a big advantage.
What may have delayed or propelled Biden's bid, was the death of his beloved son, Beau, a few months ago. Biden was very close to him, and his passing shocked him to the core. However, Beau was reportedly asking his father to try as he believed that America would be in safer and better hands under Joe Biden. And that is probably true.
Policy wise, Biden is nearly perfect, even more so than Hillary. He has a great track record of getting things done in Washington (even with the Republicans), foreign and domestic experience and is actually a hero of the middle class, unlike how Hillary tries to portray herself.
While his entry into the race would definitely bring about a much needed shake-up of the Democratic race, it will be an uphill battle against Hillary. Mrs. Clinton has been actively planning her race for years, and has already collected a lot of money and pledged support. But it wouldn't be impossible.
