Governor Jerry Brown made California the fourth state in the US on Monday to allow physician assisted dying. Yes, only the fourth, and it's disappointing that the numbers (or the lack of) overshadow the real achievement. Everyone has the right to live, and everyone should have the right to die. Of course life is sacred, but the opponents of this law must not seriously think that California's true intentions are to have a genocide. They simply just want to help those people who have no hope of a cure, and are suffering. That's it, there is no story here, Everyone is allowed to make their decisions about their life and body. If you can go and get an abortion from a professional, you should also be able to go to your doctor to die. They are there to help you and to lessen your pain. In any way possible. Of course we support that background checks must take place, and several doctors (including psychologists) should sign off before you are allowed to die. You sho...
As Hillary Clinton continues to slip in national polls, she switched up her defence on the email scandal. Clinton for the first time apologised for using a private server, and admitted that she 'made a mistake'. So far, Clinton has received heavy criticism for her handling of the situation, and sticking to the rhetoric that everyone knew about what she was doing, that she wasn't the only one who used private servers and that it was legal for her to do so.
In the interview with ABC's David Muir, Clinton touched upon many aspects of her campaign, but everyone was listening to the email questions. It is rare that she even gives interviews, but her campaign felt that something must be changed as the former First Lady is dropping in polls all across the board.
Mrs. Clinton will also appear on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and the Ellen show this week, in an attempt to show more of her personal side, and to divert attention from her scandal.
Clinton stated that in hindsight it seems like a mistake, but she still believes that what she did was fundamentally not wrong. And that maybe, but her communication regarding the matter has been confusing to the least, and the public just feels like there is something shady going on in the background. Politico even likened her former "apologies" to being more like a set of hidden insults, rather than a moment of sincere remorse.
Adding to the fire is the latest former Clinton aide who refused to answer questions regarding the situation. The technician who set up the account pleaded the rights of the fifth amendment in court this week, prompting many analysts to ponder if there is more to hide here than it is currently known. So far only a few thousand emails of Mrs. Clinton have been released from her tenure as the Secretary of State, but already there have been hundreds of emails flagged as classified, which have went through her private servers, which have not been hack free in the past.
While Mrs. Clinton was adamant in repeating that there is no criminal investigation going on regarding her role, many of her opponents have criticised Clinton for risking classified materials and the safety of her country over comfort. As a result, Mrs. Clinton has been steadily dropping in polls in recent months, while her unfavorability and untrustworthy indicators have been climbing up.
Vice President Joe Biden has also been watching these polls lately, as he is widely believed to be announcing his candidacy in a few weeks time. Adding further to reasons why the Vice President should join the race, are the latest polls that show Biden would perform better against Jeb Bush, Donald Trump and Marco Rubio in hypothetical match ups in key swings states, than Hillary Clinton would. And in the national polls, Biden was polled at 22% in the most recent survey. Behind of Clinton, but ahead of Bernie Sanders. This is the first bad news for Bernie in a long time, but enjoying 20% nationally is still a great achievement for now, however he is still expected to rise in the future, especially after the debates.
Mrs. Clinton however dropped to her lowest national poll numbers yet at 42%. Any Republican candidate would kill for such numbers, but Mrs. Clinton doesn't have 16 other opponents in this race. In the past month alone, she has dropped an average of 10% in national polls. A drop like that would explain why the Clinton campaign is changing up it's communication strategy.
And as the summer of surprises (Sanders, Trump) turn into the fall and more debates will take place, even more attention is given to the polls. Can Sanders continue to climb in polls, or did he just peak? Can Trump keep up his scores? Or will Carson, Fiorina or Bush take him over?
It's going to be an exciting autumn.
