Governor Jerry Brown made California the fourth state in the US on Monday to allow physician assisted dying. Yes, only the fourth, and it's disappointing that the numbers (or the lack of) overshadow the real achievement. Everyone has the right to live, and everyone should have the right to die. Of course life is sacred, but the opponents of this law must not seriously think that California's true intentions are to have a genocide. They simply just want to help those people who have no hope of a cure, and are suffering. That's it, there is no story here, Everyone is allowed to make their decisions about their life and body. If you can go and get an abortion from a professional, you should also be able to go to your doctor to die. They are there to help you and to lessen your pain. In any way possible. Of course we support that background checks must take place, and several doctors (including psychologists) should sign off before you are allowed to die. You sho...
Donald Trump is not going to be the next President. And we don't want him to be. But he has a very important role in the race, and ultimately he will be a factor that matters, and helps to decide the nominee. And here is why.
Bad publicity is better than no publicity. While the Republican Party is receiving a lot of attacks and bashing due to Trump, everyone knows who he is, and everyone is watching them. He creates buzz.
The first GOP Debate was watched by 24 million people. Four years ago it was watched by 3.2 million people. People wanted to see what Trump would do next. And they did. But an extra 20 million people also got the chance and opportunity to hear out the other candidates. Trump provides a platform, that allows other candidates to be heard by the masses. The viewers might not support them now, but they are going to remember them later.
And while every channel, new broadcast or internet site is talking about Trump and the Republicans, very few outlets are talking about Hillary and the Democrats. And even when they do, it is about not only how Trump overshadows Hillary, but how even Sanders and Biden do. And with Hillary's email problems, this is a huge public relations win for the Republicans.
Trump's rise also demonstrates and quantifies the anger that people have with Washington. People are fed up with how little is getting done, and the rise of such perennial candidates might make people in Washington worried, and they might actually start to get things done now, so that they will get re-elected too in their own states.
The establishment candidates are challenged too. They see how it is an advantage to be an outsider, so they might try to portray themselves as one too. They will want to tap into that, to stop their downhill ride in the polls. They will want to focus on jobs creation, and running the country like a business. Romney started this four years ago, but it could work this time around. It has also got people talking about how an outsider could end up as the Vice President. Perhaps Carly Fiorina.
Trump also matters because everyone disagrees with him, and the way candidates will react to him will show their character, and it could make them or destroy them. Ask Rand Paul, or Lindsey Graham. They started talking back to him in their own way, and they practically got destroyed. Where are they now in the polls? Exactly.
Trump's outspokenness is also good because he is slowly getting rid of political correctness. America desperately needs that. While we don't agree with what he is saying about women, Mexicans and so on, he is managing to get rid of double standards.
He has made immigration a topic, for better or for worse. We don't agree with his ideas, but he has raised the profile of this issue. And whether or not America wants to, it will have to deal with this 'problem' sooner or later. And Trump will say it. He will tell it like it is. There are a lot of things you can call him, but dishonest is not one. He will not dodge any questions, and he will just say. For that you have got to respect him, even if you don't agree with what he is saying. And all Trump would have to say to that is: Deal with it.
He is not our favorite candidate either. But people shouldn't bash him just because he even exists.
