Governor Jerry Brown made California the fourth state in the US on Monday to allow physician assisted dying. Yes, only the fourth, and it's disappointing that the numbers (or the lack of) overshadow the real achievement. Everyone has the right to live, and everyone should have the right to die. Of course life is sacred, but the opponents of this law must not seriously think that California's true intentions are to have a genocide. They simply just want to help those people who have no hope of a cure, and are suffering. That's it, there is no story here, Everyone is allowed to make their decisions about their life and body. If you can go and get an abortion from a professional, you should also be able to go to your doctor to die. They are there to help you and to lessen your pain. In any way possible. Once a rising star in the party, now just a failed Presidential Candidate. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal dropped out of the Republican Presidential Primary race this week. 3 down, 14 more to go.
Governor Jindal was the latest victim of this unique race. And the third Governor in a row. Jindal stated that this wasn't his time, but in reality he had far bigger troubles than timing. He never succeeded to break out from the crowded field of Republicans and was always relegated to the Undercard debates which are viewed by a lot less people. People were just not very enthusiastic about him, that is if they knew about him.
Jindal fell because the like of Trump and Carson rose. But honestly, he never really had that much of a chance in this race. Maybe years ago, but at least he tried. This is the year of outsiders, and Jindal is a firm insider. He has been involved with the Louisiana government for decades despite his young age, so he can't say that he is an outsider. He tried though, and that made him look even weirder. And you can't just stick to the fact that you balanced budget and cut government spending. All governors are going to say that.
And the fact that you are from Louisiana, which is one of the poorest and most unequal states in the country doesn't help either.
Jindal could never really connect with the voters, and his poll numbers were dismal, but at least they were better than his fundraising. And that is never a good sign. Not even the outrageous comments helped him that all the desperate candidates attempt.
He also received a lot of criticism for his record in Louisiana. And what is worse is that even among his fellow statesmen he is quite unpopular. It's a good thing that he will complete his term limit as Governor in January, because it would have been likely that he would have lost a re-election race. It is unclear what will happen to him now, but his political career now seems to be over for a while.
And the only reason we are not saying that it is over forever is that because he is still just 44 and in an ever changing political landscape and diverse country, there could be comebacks. But not for a while.
His exit won't really make big waves in the Republican race. Texas Senator Ted Cruz could benefit the most as they two men had a similar target audience, but Jindal's supporter were small in number, so a significant change for Cruz is unlikely. But it still must be a nice feeling. Cruz, Trump, Rubio and Bush continue to be the most likely candidates to make it to the final rounds after this week. Huckabee, Pataki and Christie should be worried the most now as they are the next in line Governors who are not doing that well and might quit soon. Maybe not Christie. But we'll see.
But whatever happened to Governors? They used to be the best candidates for the White House, as it is pretty much the same job, just on a larger scale. Maybe this is one of those things that Obama managed to changed for the worse. And that list is so long, that it is hard to get on it.
